Lopez House Fire

Organized by Chris Overstreet

Apartment Bound
I just had the privilege of giving the Lopez family $100 from the ChipIn fund (a few bucks of my own thrown in). They will use it for the security deposit on an apartment; the lease will be signed on Monday. Fortunately, their insurance company will reimburse them for most of the rent while they are there.

Meanwhile, damaged goods and debris have been cleaned out of the house, and renovations are expected to begin in about five days.

Fire!
At 4:00 AM Saturday morning, the attic of my neighbor's house caught fire.

While the family and the structure were saved, the damage to the interior of the house was severe. The roof and many of the beams will need to be replaced, and the ceiling is falling down in much of the house due to water damage.

Additionally, those possessions that weren't damaged by burning debris falling from the ceiling were damaged by water; very little of what's left is usable.

The family will need to cover costs of rent for about three months while the home is repaired, and of course the kids will need new clothes, books and toys.

How about chipping in the money that you were going to spend at Starbucks this morning? A couple of bucks each from a lot of people will go a long way.
